The Art Newspaper Russia invites Denis Kulikov to the opening of the recycle-art project "Alternative Evolution"
08 April 2020

The Pop Up Museum of Contemporary Russian Art, Nikolskaya Gallery and Eterna Consulting Management present an alternative exhibition of sculptures by Denis Kulikov from industrial metal waste “Alternative Evolution”.

The Alternative Evolution project raises one of the pressing global problems - the problem of global environmental pollution. Denis Kulikov contributed to her decision by creating works that emphasized the idea of the environment and the imprint left by man. The artist not only gives a second life to the scrap metal thrown into the trash, but also calls for protecting nature for future generations.

Recycle-art is a new, but quite widespread direction, which aims to reduce the negative impact of various types of waste on the environment and is considered as one of the trends in the environmental movement. The main principles of Recycle-art are saving natural resources and materials, reducing excess production, searching for alternative and humane materials and technologies for producing consumer goods, changing consumer habits and preferences.

Denis Kulikov in his works uses industrial scrap metal, parts of broken mechanisms. The exposition includes more than 80 sculptures of Kulikov: marine plots, the life of the barely visible and mysterious world of insects, the history of dinosaurs, as well as a series of Cosmoflora works - the author’s reflections on cosmic plants growing in other worlds. Metal installations create the effect of cyborgization of flora and fauna. Can these cyborgs be called a new round of evolution? But the metal itself precisely evolves in the hands of the sculptor, receiving a second life from him.
