"Art Moscow" announces the opening of the exhibition of Igor Sever "Morphology Point / Foucault / Deleuze / Abstraction"
22 February 2019

Igor Sever was born in 1961 on the island of Svalbard. From early childhood, he was fond of painting and was educated at the British Higher School of Design in Moscow. The artist's interest in the philosophical trends of structuralism and poststructuralism leads him to his own style of painting through experiments with geometric textual elements.

Michel Foucault and Gilles Deleuze belong to the generation of philosophers of the 60-70-ies of the twentieth century, exploring cultural problems in the postmodern space. Their methodology is different, but it addresses one issue. Foucault uses the concept of discourse and discursive thinking, that is, logically developed in a sequence of concepts and judgments, contrasting them with intuitive thinking. In the paintings of the North, we notice how geometric shapes also "unfold" sequentially in a random direction. The repetition of the same three-dimensional geometric figures makes you think about the recurrence, secondary nature of events occurring in the cultural context of each particular environment of being, namely, in different eras and cultures.

Creativity Deleuze belongs to the analytical tradition, based on the logic of thinking, an ordered structure, anti-metaphysical orientation. The philosopher refers to the concept of singularity, more specifically - the uniqueness of the event, despite the conventional similarity with other similar events that repeat throughout the time: “These are turning points and points of the folds; bottlenecks, nodes, runways and centers; melting point, condensation and boiling points; points of tears and laughter, sickness and health, hope and despondency, points of sensitivity. " Deleuze's explanation brings us closer to understanding the visual concept of the North.

Igor Sever - a participant in numerous Moscow exhibitions, a participant in the London auction of contemporary art (Kabinet), the Russian-Chinese seasons of the POP UP Museum; presented in private collections in Russia and abroad.

The exhibition ends on March 22.
